What was your most notable project, deal, transaction or professional achievement in 2016?
While the complete overhaul and relaunch of our website – LICQNS.com – was a significant accomplishment, it was the release of the LIC Comprehensive Plan Phase One Report that is our most notable achievement in 2016. LIC has never been studied across its full geography and many sectors. The report addresses how to leverage the district’s tremendous market potential and guide public and private-sector investments in LIC to balance growth across sectors.
What project, transaction, market trend or product had the greatest impact on your industry this year?
The commercial building by Tishman Speyer that just broke ground at Queens Plaza. While significant in its own right, we hope this project will lead a new wave of commercial construction in LIC that will meet demand and ensure a successful mixed-use, live-work community even as the area continues to be a popular residential neighborhood.
How will you be supercharging your productivity in 2017?
Our membership is growing as well as our staff, so we will be heightening services to businesses, residents and visitors along with increased promotion of the neighborhood across all sectors.
What emerging trends will drive investment and development in 2017?
More and more companies want to be in LIC, so commercial space is in demand. Also, there is demand for family-size apartments and condos, so I expect that to be another driver. We are also going to see a significant amount of retail space coming online, creating new amenities for our growing community.
