How did you get your start in real estate?

My father’s development and investment firm, RJ Capital Holdings

What recent project or transaction are you most proud of?

I have to admit, the most recent thrilling deal I am proud of is closing an East Harlem site at nearly record breaking $300 per s/f. Lots of lost sleep until that deal closed!

What recent honor, achievement or recognition has meant the most to you and why?

I just wrapped up my spring semester of Graduate School at NYU’s Schack Institute of Real Estate (going for Real Estate Development Masters) and managed to continue to my 4.0 streak. Not easy being a full time New Yorker!

What have been some of the benefits of being a mentor or having a mentor?

Having a mentor is super important in the fast pace field of real estate. There are factors that are constantly changing the playing field and it’s good to have an experienced mentor who can guide you through the different phases of real estate in your career.

Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career and why?

I can’t just give credit to one person! There are three for me: naturally (and the strongest) influence is my father. He has decades of experience I have yet to learn from and is a true inspiration on how to make something when you have nothing to begin with. My uncle Albert for sponsoring my license and putting up with my hundreds of questions as young agent. Last but not least, Josh Goldflam, one of the principals from my office for pushing me to take a leap into full time investment sales at Highcap Group. Can’t thank these three enough for the amazing career I currently have.

What time management strategies do you find to be the most effective for you?

I am still trying to find the right time management strategy for me, but what works for me right now is my late night email drafting that gets sent in the morning…saves me time during my day to engage in more calls!

What is the best advice you have received and who was it from?

Surprisingly, the best advice I received about real estate came from someone who has no interest/knowledge in real estate, my mother. “Michelle, it’s just a deal. If it didn’t happen, there is a reason why. There will be many more to come. Relax and breathe.”
