What have been some of the benefits of being a mentor or having a mentor?
Having been an employee of the firm since before I even started law school has allowed me to have a team of mentors. There was always someone available to guide my class choices, pro bono opportunities and help me integrate from intern to attorney. Being that I have well established relationships with members of the firm, it allows me the comfort level of being able to ask questions and receive guidance, whether it be a legal issue or how to handle a situation. I believe it is important to have others to bounce questions and ideas off of, especially when those people have been in the business longer and have more experience.
What time management strategies do you find to be the most effective for you?
Preparation and advanced planning are two of the most beneficial time management strategies I utilize. Whether it is preparing for a closing in advance so the transaction runs smoothly, or even taking time Monday morning to review what needs to be done for the week; being mentally prepared helps when things need to be prioritized and to ensure efficiency.
What is the best advice you have received and who was it from?
Firm partner Mary Mongioi gave the best advice, which is my most calming thought when a situation gets stressful. “Everything (almost everything) can always be fixed.” Just that simple thought can help put things into perspective, reminding me to start thinking of solutions and not letting whatever the issue is get to me.
