06-10-2013 - USGBC-LI to hold Sixth Annual Building Green Gala

The Long Island chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC-LI) will host its Sixth Annual Building Green Gala on June 10 at Oheka Castle in Huntington. The USGBC-LI, which promotes sustainable green building practices, will honor congressman Steve Israel at the event for his accomplishments in sustainability and energy security. The Town of North Hempstead “Yes We Can” LEED Platinum Community Center will also be recognized. The evening will feature an extended cocktail reception, followed by dinner and the honoree awards presentation. All funds raised from the event will be used to support the USGBC-LI's mission to improve our quality of life by improving the quality of the structures we build, and the environment in which we all live, work, and play by engaging businesses, developers, municipalities and individuals to be part of the process. "The USGBC-LI Annual Gala is an opportunity for us to bring to people's attention our green building mission and to celebrate the great progress that we have made, said Vince Capogna, LEED AP ID+C and USGBC-LI Executive Director. "We salute Congressman Israel's co-founding of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) and his leadership in U.S. energy security -- reducing our national dependence on foreign oil and lowering energy costs. One of Representative Israel's priorities in Congress has been to preserve and protect Long Island's greatest natural resource, the Long Island Sound." "The Town of North Hempstead LEED Platinum "Yes We Can" Community Center is a prime example of a building that conserves resources, offers a healthy indoor environment to its occupants, and supports the community,” said Capogna. "The building serves as a community center, broadcasting studio, and also is home to the town's 311 call center. It provides a vital and sustainable resource to the local community and greater Long Island." For more information about the USBGC-LI Annual Gala see http://www.usgbc-li.org/gala/
