USGBC-LI has selected its honorees for the 2009 Building Green Long Island gala, to be held March 18 at the Marriott Long Island in Uniondale.
The honorees are Steve Bellone, supervisor of the Town of Babylon, and Edward Blumenfeld, principal, Blumenfeld Development Group. Both honorees were selected for their support of green building. The Town of Babylon, under Bellone's leadership, recently unveiled its Long Island Green Homes Program, a groundbreaking policy initiative that allows homeowners to improve the energy efficiency of their homes at little or no cost and without assuming debt. The program is expected to save each resident $1,160 annually, and will create 6,600 new green collar jobs, according to the Town of Babylon.
Blumenfeld Development Group is behind the creation of the 850,000 square foot Arches outlet center in Deer Park, which is expected to receive LEED certification.
The honorees will join guests at the March 18 event, which is being planned in accordance with the USGBC-LI's commitment to sustainable living. The menu will feature Long Island foods, beer and wine, and guests will be provided with ways to carpool to the event to minimize carbon emissions.

Tickets to the event and sponsorship information are available on the organization's web site, www.USGBC-LI.org.
