Tracey Daniels of the New York chapter of CREW Network discuss their careers and accomplishments

Name: Tracey Daniels Title: Partner Company/firm: Hartman & Craven LLP Years with company/firm: 7.5 Years in field: 12 Years in real estate industry: 7.5 Address: 488 Madison Avenue, New York, New York 10022 Telephone: 212-753-7500 Email: [email protected] Real estate organizations/affiliations: NYcrew Membership Co-Chair; Community Housing Improvement Program (CHIP) Which project, deal or transaction was the "game changer" in the advancement of your career during the last 10 years? Joining Hartman & Craven LLP was a total game changer for me. I had always wanted to be a real estate attorney, but until I came here I hadn't had the opportunity. Prior to Hartman & Craven I had been primarily a corporate attorney working with internet and other start-up companies preparing private placements. When I came here the real estate market was on fire while the internet bubble had burst. Condominium offering plans were essentially the same as private placements, but the security offered was real estate and not stock. Things grew from there and 7 plus years later I have a diverse transactional real estate practice. What advice would you give to women just starting out in commercial real estate? I think it's important to get a broad based, high quality legal education both in school and in the real world. Notwithstanding, I think that anyone has the ability to learn the law; it's the people you work with - your peers, your mentors, your clients - that enable you to truly excel at what you do. Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career and why? I can't narrow it down to one individual. In the almost 8 years I've been at Hartman & Craven LLP I've worked closely with a number of excellent attorneys, but there are a few in particular stand out. Each one has his own negotiation style, his own business development strategies and his own method of teaching and mentoring. I've been able to discover what works best for me by adopting the skills I admire most in each of them.
