Stalco Construction and Urbahn Architects celebrate Farmingdale State College SUNY groundbreaking

Political leaders and representatives of the Farmingdale State College SUNY, general contractor Stalco Construction and Urbahn Architects broke ground for the new, 42,000 s/f School of Business building at the college's campus. New York state senator Charles Fuschillo, Jr. and assembly member Bob Sweeney, who secured the funding for this and many other projects that are part of a $185 million campus-wide capital campaign, were on hand to begin the excavation. Also in attendance were campus officials and representatives from Urbahn Archs., Stalco Const. and the SUNY Construction Fund. "The new, three-story, $26.7 million School of Business will be one of the most architecturally prominent higher education structures in the Northeast," said Stalco Const.vice president Joseph Serpe. "The building, which aims at LEED Silver certification, will feature a striking, modern, charcoal and ivory-colored façade, expansive glass curtain wall and a high number of environmentally responsible design and engineering solutions. The school's energy efficiency performance will exceed New York State's requirements by 30%. The construction cost of the project is $19 million." The project team includes general contractor Stalco, architect and interior designer Urbahn, structural engineer Consulting Engineers Collaborative, civil engineer BET Engineering Consultants, MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) engineer Vanderweill Engineers, Lighting designer Domingo Gonzalez Associates, and Landscape architect Starr Whitehouse Landscape Architects.

When Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) were first part of commercial real estate risk management, it was the lenders driving this requirement. When a borrower wanted a loan on a property, banks would utilize a list of “Approved Consultants” to order the report on both refinances and purchases.
