New York, NY On Thursday, November 5, Professional Women in Construction (PWC)’s inaugural Buildings & Infrastructure Seminar will offer an opportunity to network with heads of public agencies and executives at top firms about infrastructure and development in New York City and the broader area. Five world class leaders shaping megaprojects regionally and globally through public/private partnerships and other creative associations will discuss works both in progress and imminent as well as emerging trends and opportunities. The forum takes place at 3 West Club, 3 West 51st St., from 5:30 p.m. (program starts at 6:30) until 8 p.m.
The speakers are:
• Maria Torres-Springer, the first woman president & CEO of NYC EDC. Torres-Springer is leading
The Agency’s efforts to make the City the global model for inclusive innovation and economic growth with an emphasis on supporting underserved communities. The former commissioner of the NYC Dept. of Small Business Services, she played a key role in the launch of Women Entrepreneurs NYC.
• Gerrard Bushell, CEO & president, Dormitory Authority State of New York (DASNY), appointed to the position by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Bushell was chosen for his broad public and private experience as an investment advisor for state & local governments (including work for NYS Comptroller H. Carl McCall), corporations, endowments, such financial institutions as BNY Mellon and labor unions on their public and private investment strategies.
• Stephanie Dawson, the acting chief operating officer, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ). PANYNJ has a $27.5B 10-year Capital Plan dedicated to investing in and operating the region’s key trade and infrastructure. Dawson is responsible for aviation; tunnels, bridges, and terminals; Port Commerce; PATH Rail, Operations Services Department and the Office of Storm Mitigation and Resilience.
• Susan Walter, senior principal, Stantec. Walter recently applied her project management skills to the Atlantic Yards Development Project in Brooklyn, completing infrastructure improvements valued at over $200M in construction costs while keeping the nine subway lines and adjacent roadways operational throughout construction.
• Samara Barend, senior vice president, North America, PPP Development Director, AECOM Capital. Barend is a national thought leader on public-private partnerships who has championed the issue before Congress and with governors and mayors nationwide. She is also the founder and leader of thevPerformance Based Building Coalition.
