PWC awards reception will celebrate the future on April 7

On April 7, Professional Women in Construction (PWC) will present "The Future in Progress," a special PWC 30th anniversary awards reception celebrating a trio of major projects that will improve the N.Y. metro landscape in the years to come: the new NYC Police Academy in College Point, Queens; the Public Safety Answering Center II in the Bronx; and a $25 million modernization of the Aerial Tramway at Roosevelt Island. The event will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at The Yale Club. "We're proud to honor these mega-projects that will not only significantly enhance and upgrade the City's communications, transportation and security systems, but provide major opportunities for businesses, including W/M/SBEs, as well as employment," said PWC president Lenore Janis. Accepting the award for the NYC Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC) which is heading the Police Academy and Public Safety Answering Center projects will be commissioner David Burney, FAIA, and deputy commissioner David Resnick, AIA. The NYC Police Academy is a NYC Department of Design and Construction project with Turner/STV working as joint venture partners; Perkins + Will and Michael Fieldman as architects and Flack + Kurtz, MEP. The Public Safety Answering Center II, also an NYCDDC project, has Tishman Construction Corporation as CM; Skidmore Owings and Merrill as architects; and Weidlinger Associates engineers. For the tramway, the CM and A&E team will be POMA, The LiRo Group, Parametrix and BL Companies. Accepting the Roosevelt Island award will be Stephen Shane, president and CEO of Roosevelt Island Operating Corp.
