Studley donates $10,000 to American Red Cross

March 9, 2010 - Brokerage
Studley has donated $10,000 to the American Red Cross and helped the Greater Washington Haitian Relief Committee secure 34,000 s/f of warehouse space to house goods being collected by the organization. "We are happy to be able to not only make a financial contribution to the Haitian relief efforts, but to also provide a meaningful service for them," said Mitchell Steir, Studley CEO and chairman. "As a result of both our reach into the commercial real estate community and market knowledge, we were able to quickly mobilize and figure out what firm would have the most appropriate product to house this merchandise," said Randy Atkins of Studley's Suburban D.C. office. The space, which is being donated by ProLogis and is located in the developer's Hampton Central Distribution Center in Capital Heights, Maryland, is slated to house both the products being collected and the U-Haul vehicles to deliver them. "We had two blocks of space that would have worked," said Mark Levy, ProLogis' Washington, D.C. region vice president, "but the Capital Heights space made the most sense. We were happy to work closely with Studley to make this available." "It's nice to be able to use our relationships and expertise within the industry to help those suffering in Haiti," said Steir. "Every bit of help is critical to these relief efforts." According to Studley's Adam Schindler of the firm's DC office, not only was Studley able find the space quickly, but because of the firm's experience in a similar matter, it was familiar with the special documentation necessary to get the organization into the temporary space quickly. In November of 2008 Schindler helped secure space for the Capital Area Food Bank in National Public Radio's warehouse at 111 North Capitol Street. "Time was of the essence," said Schindler, who orchestrated this deal. "We appreciate ProLogis stepping up to the plate and hope that our joint efforts make a difference to those suffering in Haiti."
