Racanelli Construction Company, Inc., a construction management, general contractor and design/build resource, recently completed an extensive, multi-phase project on behalf of CBC (America) Corp.
Racanelli provided its design/build services in the construction of a one-story, 18,000 s/f addition to the south side of CBC (America)'s existing building located at 55 Mall Drive in Commack. The addition consists of a structural steel frame with an interior concrete slab. The exterior wall is comprised of a masonry enclosure with a high tech aluminum and glass curtain wall system. This glass and curtain wall system also was added to the part of the existing structure facing Mall Drive.
As part of its project services, Racanelli provided site work encompassing additional storm drainage and upgrades to the property's existing sanitary system. Additional parking was created on the west side of the existing property, and a new parking lot was added on the south side of the new extension. The parking lot already situated on the north side of the building was refurbished through a process of "milling" the existing lot and installing two inches of new asphalt over its base course.
The interior of the new extension called for the addition of 7,200 s/f of new offices and 14,000 s/f of new warehouse space which is connected to CBC (America)'s existing warehouse. The office area was a three phase construction operation, which areas were vacated, completed and then reoccupied thereby enabling CBC (America) staff to maintain their productivity levels without being hindered by construction activities.
Featured in the new interior office space is an open corridor. The corridors start at the new addition, run through the open area office partitions and connect into the ceiling and floor "Ellipse" which highlights the building's renovated reception and conference room area. The Ellipse consists of a drywall drop ceiling soffit with cove lighting and a reflective "Toli" multicolored sheet vinyl floor which mimics the ceiling layout. CBC (America) is a distributor of "Toli" goods for the nation's northeast region. The area is enclosed in white milk-colored glass with aluminum-colored millwork which is also installed in a radial pattern. This area leads to the east side reception area, waiting rooms, board room and conference rooms.
The north area of the CBC (America) building was completed by installing a "Toli" showroom with an exposed and sealed concrete floor for the company to display its extensive line of sheet vinyl flooring.
The project wasn't the first Racanelli constructed for CBC. In 1985, Racanelli built CBC's original 20,000 s/f facility and, in 1995, the company constructed a 20,000 s/f addition and performed office alternations.
Racanelli Construction Company president Nick Racanelli served as the project executive. Dan O'Keefe was the project manager. The architect on the project was David Hodukavich Architect.
