Spotlights
Karen Cohen joined the firm of M.C. O'Brien Inc. in 2007 and has proven to be an asset to the company by facilitating several notable sales and leases. With her first hand knowledge of the retail industry, she has assisted several regional and national tenants as well as landlords in concluding transactions that make sense in today's market.
Some of these transactions include a 14-year lease with a major retailer (details will be released soon) for a 17,400 s/f location in "The Midwood Section" of the borough. In addition, Pay Half, the national clothing discounter leased an 11,250 s/f building for a 10-year lease on Broadway in Brooklyn. Cohen has helped bring about the first inline "Checkers Drive Thru" location in the United States, when they leased the entire building at 970 Flatbush Ave. for a 10-year commitment. "Checkers" recently inked a second deal with M. C. O'Brien near Brooklyn College at the "Junction" of Nostrand and Flatbush Aves. with another 10-year commitment. In addition Cohen has assisted with M. C. O'Brien's exclusive representation of H & R Block and recently closed four new locations as H & R Block continues to expand through strategic site acquisition.
Cohen has also demonstrated an ability to successfully sell property and has represented several owners in regard to their dispositions and understands many of the specific concerns an owner may have in the sale of its real property. In her first year she has negotiated the sale of four properties with an aggregate value of over $2.5 million.
M.C. O'Brien has been in the real estate business since 1909. With the extensive expertise of William O'Brien, SIOR, third generation member of the firm; Cohen has been able to flourish in this challenging marketplace. As they celebrate their 100 year anniversary M.C. O'Brien continues to be in the forefront of the commercial real estate market in Brooklyn and Queens.
