Wax of WaxWords honored by Long Island Business News

Long Island real estate industry publicist Alan Wax, president of the Melville-based WaxWords Incorporated, is being honored by Long Island Business News with a 50-Around-50 Award. The award recognizes leadership in business, mentoring and support for the Island's not-for-profit organizations and a commitment to the community. The award will be presented by the regional business publication on September 24 at a gala dinner at the Garden City Hotel celebrating the companies, business leaders and top elected officials who are over 40. "I am flattered to be in the company of such distinguished, hard-working dedicated Long Islanders who have been recognized for their achievements and their leadership," said Wax, who was a prize-winning reporter, columnist and editor at Newsday for 24 years prior to establishing WaxWords in 2005. He previously covered real estate at Newsday, the Long Island newspaper, for 10 years. In addition to his work in public relations, Wax writes a wine column for Long Island magazine and is an adjunct assistant professor of journalism at Five Towns College in Dix Hills. Wax was a member of the Newsday team that won the 1997 Pulitzer Prize for Spot News Reporting for coverage one year earlier of the TWA Flight 800 crash. He is also the recipient of numerous other journalism awards. Wax serves on the board of directors of the Long Island Real Estate Group, a networking and philanthropic organization, and is a former executive vice president of public relations professionals of Long Island. He is a past president and board member of The New York Financial Writers Association. In addition, he is a member of the Press Club of Long Island, the National Association of Real Estate Editors and the Business International Network. He is also a member of the advisory board of Building Long Island magazine.
