H2M, an engineering, architectural, planning and environmental service firm has completed the new 38,000 s/f Sayville Library. This project was conceived to replace the existing 11,000 s/f library in the village. The purpose of the new library was to provide additional children's and young adult spaces, with some dedicated program spaces for this demographic. Additionally, due to significant program requests from the public, new Multi-Purpose and Meeting Rooms were designed. Sustainability and energy efficiency were high priorities to the library. Many features were included such as: a geothermal heating/cooling system, photovoltaic solar panels to produce electric and close attention to indoor space and air quality and comfort was implemented as well. H2M provided full service on this project including professional architectural and engineering services in conjunction with local architects LPA Associates. The Grand Opening Ceremony for the Sayville Library was on June 28. To commemorate the new Library the village arranged a special procession. The last book to be placed in the library was passed from one person to the next down Main St. until it reached the new library.
