August 21, 2009 - Spotlight Content
Venesa Alicea is an integral part of the AIANYS, demonstrating leadership within the AIA, and among professional allied organizations. Her focus is on diversity and the professional development of students and young professionals. As a student officer for AIAS CCNY, she was nominated to serve on the AIANYS board as the student director; she continues to liaison with the board. She is the associate director for AIANY where in addition to her professional responsibility, she continues to collaborate with the local AIAS chapters. This past spring she was involved with the successful launch of the ARE Boot Camp Review Program, IDP seminars, and a mentor match program. She has set up an IDP program in her office at Dattner Architects and was instrumental in creating an ARE resource center for her colleagues there. She has extended her involvement beyond the AIA by getting involved with the local USGBC chapter and the emerging green builders committee, along with serving on the board of directors for the City College of New York Architecture Alumni Association. She continues to nurture the future of the profession by teaching a co-op internship course at CCNY with a main focus on the IDP process. As one of the IDP Coordinators for the AIANY Chapter, she has recently started making presentations in offices. Alicea looks forward to creating an active network of Associate AIA members across New York State.
