What was your greatest professional accomplishment in 2012?
Playing a significant role on the team producing NYCREW Network's 2012 DIG This Program, when teen girls from around New York City took hammers and slide rules to the glass ceiling in commercial real estate, as part of this Career Day. DIG This is a remarkable career education and mentoring partnership implemented by NYCREW Network in conjunction with the national CREW Careers: Building Opportunities Program, developed by CREW Foundation to encourage young women to pursue careers in commercial real estate, while empowering them with other necessary skills to succeed. The Program was designed so that teams of participating girls toured Extell Development's International Gem Tower to see first-hand a construction project in progress. After heading to Crowell & Moring's office to hear from some industry experts, the girls broke into project teams to develop proposals for the development of suitable new space for their fictional new headquarters. The day's activities culminated in the presentation by each team of its proposal to a panel of industry leaders, based on which awards were presented.
What was your most notable project, deal or transaction in 2012?
Representing the largest environmental trust in U.S. history and the third largest holder of industrial property in the U.S., having a portfolio of former General Motors industrial plants comprised of over 44 million sf of industrial space, 66 buildings and 7,000 acres in 14 states. RACER's mission is to help U.S. auto communities hurt by the GM bankruptcy, by spurring economic development and creating jobs in those communities, through remediation and revitalization. It has not only been fascinating, but rewarding to assist in this endeavor.
What are your predictions for commercial real estate in 2013?Action, Action, ACTION - increased activity in many of commercial real estate's sectors and industries, particularly the retail and health care, as well as robust levels of financing and increasing public/private development projects.
What are some of your resolutions for 2013?
· Work with CREW Network and NYCREW Network, in both (a) continuing to advance the success of women in commercial real estate and (b) enhancing greater diversity of all types in the industry;
· Work to advance meaningful housing and support alternatives for patients suffering early to mid stages of alzheimers;
· Make the time for meaningful active community outreach efforts, beyond simply donating money.
