Propelled by its work for several large medical practices, a national laboratory firm and one of the world's largest weight-management service companies, JRS Architect, P.C. has again ranked among the nation's top interior design firms serving the healthcare industry. JRS, with offices in Mineola, N.Y., New York City, and Princeton, N.J., has for the fourth consecutive year placed in rankings of healthcare giants by Reed Business Information's Interior Design magazine. "This is a testimonial to our growing expertise in this specialized area of architectural design," said John Sorrenti, F.A.I.A., founder and president of JRS, which has concentrated in healthcare design, among other specialties, for the past 16 years. "We owe this honor to our clients, who have helped to make JRS an Interior Design Healthcare Giant every year since the magazine instituted these ranking." The magazine's annual business survey of healthcare Interior Design Giants ranked the 40 largest firms by healthcare design fees for the 12-month period from July, 2007 to June, 2008. Fees from healthcare projects among the Top 40 firms accounted on average for 46% of each healthcare Giant's total fees. Industry wide healthcare design fees rose 20% since last year, and fees are expected to rise 6% in the coming year, according to the magazine. "Understandably, bigger, better, brighter, and newer is the name of the healthcare game," according to Interior Design, reporting that the majority (62%) of these projects cited in its report were new construction while 38% were renovations. "We want to acknowledge the talent and commitment of the professionals at JRS," said Alex Hadjiyane, A.I.A. and senior vice president of JRS. "Our team of qualified professionals are fully knowledgeable about compliance with requirements of the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and work extensively to formulate and execute effective designs for each specific area of medicine." Recent JRS healthcare projects of note include numerous testing facilities in New York City and Long Island for Laboratory Corp. of America, facilities in Manhattan for Jenny Craig Inc., new medical offices in Lake Success, N.Y., for Gastrointestinal Associates of Long Island and Neurological Associates of Long Island and the new Great South Bay, LLC medical office facility in Islip.
