Velez of The Velez Organization named Developer of the Year by Bronx Chamber of Commerce

Bronx, NY Elizabeth Velez, president and principal of The Velez Organization, was honored as Developer of the Year by the Bronx Chamber of Commerce at its Sept. 17 Annual Gala at Marina del Rey, recognizing more than 30 years of leadership in construction, development and expanding economic opportunity across New York.

Velez leads a second-generation, Latino- and woman-owned construction services firm that has delivered more than $10 billion in public and private infrastructure projects. Her portfolio includes major healthcare, education and infrastructure work, as well as more than 600 units of affordable housing across the Bronx and Harlem.

Her influence also extends well beyond individual projects. Velez has been a leading advocate for greater MWBE participation and access to major public and private contracts. She serves on the boards of the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) and New York City Economic Development Corp. (NYCEDC), made history as the first person of color and second woman to chair the New York Building Congress, and currently chairs the New York Building Foundation.

The Chamber recognized Velez as part of this year’s gala theme, “Hustle, Heart, History: The Bronx as the Blueprint for Growth”. reflecting both her family’s longstanding history in New York construction and her role in shaping the next generation of the industry.
