2026 Developing Long Island: Proposed Ronald McDonald House Long Island at Stony Brook University Hospital

Stony Brook, NY The Ronald McDonald House at Stony Brook University Hospital is developing a new three-story, 28-room facility on Stony Brook University’s East Campus, across from the hospital. Construction began in January 2026 and will provide families with a supportive place to stay while their children receive medical care.

Key Civil Engineering, P.C. was retained by The Ronald McDonald House to provide civil engineering and site development services. The team prepared site plans and construction details, including site grading and drainage, roadway and parking layouts, fire department and loading access, drop-off areas, ADA accessibility, and stormwater management.

Additional services included water and sanitary sewer design; coordination of gas, electric, and telecommunications utilities; parking lot lighting and photometrics; landscape and irrigation plans; and preparation of the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan and erosion control measures.

KCE’s long-term relationship and experience with Stony Brook University assisted the team to coordinate with Facilities Management to obtain plan approvals and help divide the overall project development into two separate work scopes. Construction administration services will continue throughout the project, including SWPPP inspections and reporting.
