Manhattan, NY On Monday, June 22, at the Center for Architecture, guests are welcomed to “Empowering the Next Generation of Adaptive Reuse Innovators” panel discussing adaptive reuse, and how mentorship, education and architect leadership are priming a new generation of designers and urbanists focused on transforming existing buildings.

The panelists include: Stephan Schütz of gmp and the Academy for Architectural Culture; Charles Renfro, of Rice University and Diller Scofidio + Renfro; student Eva Vesmanova from the NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service; HR+A partner and Columbia GSAPP adjunct Kate Wittels; and moderator Michelle Neary of Gensler and the AIA New York Chapter’s Building Science Committee.

Introductions are by Rosalind Tsang, AIA, LEED, who is co-chair of the AIANY Women in Architecture Committee and newly studio director for the New York office of the global firm gmp · Architekten von Gerkan, Marg und Partner (gmp Architects).

This panel discussion is made possible by: AAC, gmp USA Inc., AIA New York Chapter, and the AIANY Women in Architecture Committee.

This panel offers an inspiring and informative look at several influential building reuse-focused programs, studios, and workshops empowering students and recent graduates both locally and across global borders. Learning from experienced mentors, exploring creative ideas, and encountering real-world applications, participants will gain insight into how design education connects to the practical realities of implementation and ultimately grow their potential to address one of our most critical architectural and social issues.

Speakers — including educators, leaders of globally recognized architecture firms, economic development practitioners, and young professionals — will share their perspectives on how mentorship, education, and collaboration can translate innovative ideas into viable projects. Their experiences offer valuable takeaways for the future.
