2026 Developing Queens: The OneLIC Neighborhood Plan inspires further growth
Queens, NY Long Island City’s monumental growth shows no signs of slowing down. Since LIC Partnership started tracking data, 40,000 residential units have been completed along with two million s/f of retail and nine million s/f of commercial space. The OneLIC Neighborhood Plan sets the stage for further growth, with 14,000 new housing units, schools, park space, and infrastructure investments proposed.
LIC’s mixed-use makeup powered a job growth of 30% between 2013-2023, 1.8x faster than NYC. A strong industrial core combines with the largest geographic BID in NYC where 44 businesses opened in 2025 alone.
LIC’s residential population grew by 70% between 2014-2024, 45x faster than NYC and 37x faster than the rest of the borough. This population increase is fueled by a highly educated talent pool – over 2,000 graduate students live in LIC and 35% of residents age 25 or older hold graduate or professional degrees. A large portion of these degree holders are also young families – after graduate students, the largest group of students are in grades 1-4. This is reflected in the large number of family-friendly businesses we see opening throughout the neighborhood.
