Daniel Evans
Real Estate Finance Practice Chair
Seyfarth Shaw LLP

“Dan Evans has been a cornerstone of Seyfarth for more than two decades, admired as both a trusted advisor to clients and a deeply respected leader within the firm. As chair of our national Real Estate Finance practice, he combines technical excellence with innovation and mentorship, earning the confidence of colleagues and clients across the commercial real estate industry.”

What is one major challenge you’ve overcome as a leader, and what did it teach you?

As the industry faced heightened volatility over the past few years, I was challenged to adjust my leadership approach to meet clients’ evolving needs. Interest rates shifted quickly, liquidity became uneven, and many deals required revisiting assumptions that once felt stable. I learned that leadership in those moments is less about having all the answers and more about being present and pragmatic. Staying accessible to clients and helping teams focus on solutions allowed us to keep moving forward when traditional approaches no longer fit the market.

How do you inspire, motivate, or mentor others within your organization?

I aim to lead by example and transparency, grounded in the belief that investing time in mentorship builds confident, thoughtful team members who elevate the entire firm. I bring junior lawyers into deal strategy discussions early, encouraging them to understand the “why,” not just the mechanics. Through Seyfarth’s Real Estate Finance Training Program, I connect seasoned attorneys with junior team members to foster open dialogue and experience sharing. I also serve as an adjunct professor at Fordham Law, helping prepare the next generation of real estate attorneys as they begin their careers.

What recent accomplishment or initiative are you most proud of, and what impact did it have on your firm, clients, or community?

I am particularly proud of the work our team has done helping institutional lenders launch and scale new lending platforms using process mapping, project management, and AI-enabled review tools. By designing standardized workflows, leveraging SeyfarthLink for real-time deal tracking, and integrating AI for diligence and document review, we materially reduced closing timelines and increased consistency across high-volume programs, allowing clients to deploy capital more efficiently in a challenging market.

What advice would you share with emerging professionals striving to become future leaders in commercial real estate?

Master the fundamentals, but do not stop there. The strongest future leaders understand both the legal details and the business realities behind each transaction. Stay curious about market cycles, new sources of capital, and how technology is changing the way deals get done. Seek out mentors who push you to improve, learn from those around you, and accept advice and feedback with grace. Above all, build trust through responsiveness, sound judgment, and integrity. Strong relationships will shape your career more than any single deal.

What daily habit or routine helps you stay focused or motivated as a leader?

I check in with different team members daily on a personal level to foster trust and accountability.
