EPIC to continue inspection partnership with School of Visual Arts

Manhattan, NY EPIC, a provider in the Special and Progress Inspections industry, is highlighting its ongoing inspection services partnership with the School of Visual Arts (SVA), a relationship that began in 2018 and has since expanded to more than 45 projects across nearly all of SVA’s New York City campus buildings.

EPIC’s first engagement with SVA involved inspections for an MEP fit out of the 6^th floor at 205 East 23^rd St. Since that time, EPIC has provided comprehensive inspection services for a wide range of project types, including full-floor interior fit outs, HVAC system replacements, structural repairs, façade work, and major building infrastructure upgrades. This sustained collaboration reflects EPIC’s technical expertise, responsiveness, and familiarity with SVA’s diverse building portfolio.

Representative projects include EPIC’s inspection services for the relocation of SVA’s Animation Department to the 6^th floor at 133 West 21^st St. The 8,000 s/f fitout included new Animation and Computer Labs, staff offices, drawing studios as well as structural inspections for new roof-mounted steel dunnage. EPIC performed TR1 inspections for mechanical and sprinkler systems, post-installed anchors, fire-resistant penetrations and joints, and structural steel work, along with TR8 inspections covering HVAC-R and service water heating equipment and controls, piping design and insulation, duct leakage testing, maintenance documentation, and interior lighting power and controls.

At 132 West 21^st St., EPIC conducted inspections for repairs to the exterior fire escape along the south façade. During construction, EPIC identified and documented discrepancies between approved shop drawings and field conditions, coordinating with the structural engineer to resolve issues prior to final sign-off. TR1 inspections included structural steel welding, details, and high-strength bolting.

EPIC also provided inspection services for major building system upgrades at 17 Gramercy, an SVA student residence. The project included full electrification, HVAC upgrades, heat pump domestic hot water systems, new passenger elevators, and removal of gas service. EPIC performed TR1 inspections for mechanical and sprinkler systems, fire-resistance rated construction, structural stability related to building alterations, and final inspections, as well as TR8 inspections for HVAC-R and service water heating equipment and controls, piping design and insulation, duct leakage testing, maintenance documentation, and interior lighting power.

Through its continued work with SVA, EPIC has demonstrated its ability to support complex institutional projects, and tight construction timelines, while maintaining rigorous compliance with the New York City Construction Codes and Energy Conservation Code.
