2026 Women in Construction: Jillian Augustyn, Wendel

What current or recently completed project, accomplishment or initiative are you most excited about, and why does it matter for your team, clients or community?

I’m especially energized by our renovation project in Alden, NY for an international manufacturing client. We’re transforming an existing office and warehouse into a modern, efficient space tailored to their operations. It matters because it strengthens our client’s ability to grow while showcasing our team’s adaptability and problem solving. Seeing a dated facility evolve into something purposeful and future ready is incredibly rewarding.

What do you wish more women knew about the opportunities available in the construction industry today?

I wish more women knew how many pathways exist in construction today, far beyond what the industry used to be. Whether you’re drawn to project management, estimating, safety, engineering, or skilled trades, there’s room to build a meaningful career. The industry is actively seeking diverse perspectives, and women bring strengths that elevate collaboration, communication, and innovation across every phase of a project.

What emerging challenge or opportunity do you see shaping the construction industry in the next few years, and how are you preparing for it?

One of the biggest shifts ahead is the rapid integration of technology, from AI driven planning tools to advanced building systems that demand new expertise. This creates both challenges and exciting opportunities. I’m preparing by staying curious, investing time in learning new platforms, and encouraging my team to embrace change rather than fear it. The companies that adapt early will shape the industry’s next chapter.

What is one piece of advice or perspective you would share with women beginning their careers in the construction industry?

My advice is to trust your voice and be confident in your presence, even when you’re the only woman in the room. Construction rewards resilience, curiosity, and relationship building, and you don’t need to fit a stereotype to succeed. Ask questions, seek mentors, and stay open to learning. Every project will teach you something new, and over time you’ll see the real value you bring.

What habit or routine helps you stay focused or motivated during a busy week?

I stay focused by staying organized and working through structured daily task and follow up lists.

What is something outside of work that brings you energy, balance or creativity?

Recreational sports such as softball and kickball, along with simple walks, help me maintain balance and energy.

Share one fun or unexpected detail about yourself that colleagues might not know.

I love exploring new places, from the Caribbean islands to major US cities, and I collect magnets from each trip.
