2026 Women in Construction: Anabella Acevedo Peña, NAVA
Project Designer / Project Manager
NAVA
What current or recently completed project, accomplishment or initiative are you most excited about, and why does it matter for your team, clients or community?
I’m especially excited about moving into the next phases of 14 White St., a multifamily residential project in Tribeca I’ve worked on for several years at NAVA. Designed to high standards of comfort, aesthetics, and ultra-efficiency, it’s been a great collaborative experience. It’s meaningful for our team and will be a strong reference project that honors Tribeca’s industrial history.
What do you wish more women knew about the opportunities available in the construction industry today?
I wish more women knew that other women are already in the industry — and actively reshaping it. Beyond filling positions, we’re bringing new perspectives and influencing how the industry evolves. Collaborating with other women has been inspiring, and it shows there’s both space and a real need for female input in construction today.
What habit or routine helps you stay focused or motivated during a busy week?
Prioritizing rest, good sleep, and small moments to decompress keeps me focused, energized, and motivated.
What emerging challenge or opportunity do you see shaping the construction industry in the next few years, and how are you preparing for it?
Ultra-efficient and passive construction will continue to define the industry. Energy should be understood as a form of currency, influencing design, materials, and cost. I focus on staying informed about new technologies and products. At NAVA, we specialize in passive and energy-efficient design, treating buildings as integrated living ecosystems.
What is one piece of advice or perspective you would share with women beginning their careers in the construction industry?
Don’t give up — even when the path feels overwhelming. Passion gets you started, but discipline keeps you going. Take the time to do things right, double-check details, ask for second opinions, and protect your health. Our work requires clarity, focus, and stamina, and taking care of yourself is essential.
What is something outside of work that brings you energy, balance or creativity?
Music brings me joy, and regular exercise helps me stay balanced and mentally clear.
Share one fun or unexpected detail about yourself that colleagues might not know.
I’m the leader of a Latin music band called Melao.
