What do you wish more women knew about the opportunities available in the construction industry today? Many people still picture construction as purely physical, manual labor, but the industry offers a wide range of professional paths beyond building in the field. From owner’s representatives and project managers to estimators, accountants, and operations teams, there are countless ways to contribute. No matter the role, you share in the satisfaction of delivering something tangible, whether affordable housing or a new commercial space. Being able to pass a project and say, “I helped build that,” is incredibly rewarding.

What is one piece of advice or perspective you would share with women beginning their careers in the construction industry? Don’t be afraid to speak up. Construction is still a male-dominated industry, and early in your career it can feel intimidating to question someone with more experience. But experience does not always equal accuracy. Trust your perspective, stand your ground when needed, and ask questions when you do not understand something. That is how you grow. Often, others have the same questions but hesitate to voice them. Speaking up builds confidence, earns respect, and helps everyone move forward more effectively.

What habit or routine helps you stay focused or motivated during a busy week? I time-block priorities on my calendar and keep notifications off to minimize distractions and protect focused work time.

Share one fun or unexpected detail about yourself that colleagues might not know. Gardening, knitting, and sewing. Creating things by hand is both challenging and meditative and keeps me grounded.
