Developing Long Island: SeaWolves Village at Stony Brook University

Stony Brook, NY Key Civil Engineering (KCE) was contracted by Stony Brook University to provide civil engineering services for a major new housing development on the university’s north campus. The project includes the construction of 600 student beds across five dormitory buildings and two support buildings — comprising seven two-story prefabricated modular structures. The development spans approximately 7 acres, 5.5 of which were previously wooded.

KCE played a central role in the design and coordination of the project, collaborating closely with multiple engineering consultants to deliver a comprehensive package of plans and specifications. Acting as the lead firm, KCE organized and led weekly design and construction meetings with university personnel and the broader project team. KCE’s scope of work included site layout, fire code compliance, retaining wall design, and site grading and stormwater drainage systems. Additionally, the firm was responsible for planning the necessary site improvements and drainage infrastructure to support all buildings.

This development reflects KCE’s ability to lead complex, multidisciplinary projects from concept to construction on a fast-track schedule. The dormitory complex is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, expanding on-campus housing options for Stony Brook students.
