Hudson Companies promotes Syrop to principal
Manhattan, NY The Hudson Companies has promoted Laszlo Syrop, managing director of acquisitions, to the position of principal, where he will continue to help lead the firm in building high-quality housing for all.
Since joining Hudson in 2019, Syrop has played a pivotal role in advancing the firm’s investment strategy and expanding its footprint across the metropolitan area.
“This promotion is well earned,” said David Kramer, president of The Hudson Companies. “Since joining Hudson, Laszlo has helped us source and close some of our most impactful recent deals. His influence has been instrumental in shaping our company strategy, institutionalizing our processes, and expanding our footprint regionally. As principal, he will continue to help drive our firm’s growth – he’s exactly the kind of person we want helping to shape the future of the company.”
His leadership in acquisitions has been instrumental in securing and developing several of Hudson’s recent projects, including:
537 West 59th St.: A nine-story, purpose-built women’s shelter developed in partnership with Project Renewal, offering 200 beds, a medical clinic, and comprehensive social services.
• 975 Nostrand Ave. (The Arcadian), Brooklyn: A mixed-use development featuring 328 highly-amenitized residential units — 30% of which are designated as affordable housing — alongside a modern supermarket, neighborhood retail, and a small community facility.
• 27-45 North Main St., Port Chester: A six-story, transit-oriented development comprising 203 residential units, 10,000 s/f of ground-floor retail, and space for local nonprofit, Human Development Services of Westchester.
In his capacity as head of acquisitions, Syrop leads Hudson’s efforts in identifying, evaluating, and securing new development and investment opportunities across all lines of business.
“Working alongside Laszlo has been an especially productive and rewarding aspect of my time at Hudson,” said Joe Riggs, principal and head of development. “Laszlo approaches every acquisition with clarity, creativity, and a sharp understanding of what it takes to execute. His strategic instincts and discipline at the front end of a deal set the tone for the development processes that follow. His promotion to Principal is a reflection not only of his sharp investment acumen, but of the leadership, integrity, and long-term vision he brings to our firm.”
In his new role, Syrop will continue to lead the Acquisitions team while joining the firm’s leadership and HR committees. Complementing his acquisition responsibilities, Syrop will help direct company strategy, partnerships, governance, and capital formation activities.
Prior to his time at Hudson Companies, Syrop was VP of Acquisitions and Operations at HomeRiver Group and held roles at Lee Equity Partners and the Boston Consulting Group. Syrop received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Brown University and his Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
