The Spector Group wins architecture and design awards for 3 projects

December 15, 2008 - Long Island
According to The Spector Group, one of New York's premiere architecture and design firms, three of its projects - the Bucharest Medical Center in Romania, Mason Capital Management in New York City and its Woodbury, Long Island office - received 2008 Archi Awards in multiple categories from the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Additionally, Spector was recognized with special furniture and lighting awards. The firm also received two "Best of '08'" awards from New York Construction magazine, one for its work for the North Shore Hebrew Academy and the second, and another win, for its Long Island office. The annual competition recognizes construction excellence from across the tri-state region. Criteria included project management and client service, safety, design and functionality. Winners were selected from 268 entries. "We are extremely proud that our work, both domestic and global, has been recognized by such prestigious organizations," said Marc Spector, AIA, principal, Spector Group. "We hold ourselves to the highest of standards and these awards are independent validations of our successfully always doing our very best for each and every one of our clients." For more than 20 years, the Spector Group has submitted projects for our Archi Awards competition," said Ann LoMonte, Hon.AIA, executive director of AIA Long Island, "and each year they have won either an Archi Award, Commendation and/or both. We are honored to have them as part of our membership." The Winning Entries 2008 Archi Awards * Receiving a Commendation in the "Un-Built" category was the Spector Group's design for the Bucharest Medical Center & Hotel Campus. * For "Interior Architecture," the firm was awarded a Commendation for Mason Capital Management in New York City. * The Spector Group's Long Island office received a Commendation in the "Commercial/Mercantile" category. * The AIA also recognized the Spector Group with two special awards: The "Lighting Award" for the best use of natural or artificial lighting was given for its work for the Weber Law Firm in Melville, N.Y. The "Furniture and Furnishings Award" for excellence in non-residential furniture and furnishings design was given in recognition of Spector's designs for Mason Capital Management, its second win for this client within the competition. New York Construction's "Best of '08'" Awards * Spector received the top award for "Best Small Project" (under $10 million) for its Long Island office. Originally a warehouse, the building was converted into a 'laboratory of design,' featuring state-of-the-art mechanical systems, lighting and materials. The space provides an open plan office where staff interaction is facilitated by design. Every staff member benefits from natural light and an expansive exterior view. The building employs sustainable measures, is cost-effective and creates a showcase of design illustrative of the firm's strong brand. * Winning the magazine's top prize for "Best Pre K-12 Education Project" is the Spector Group's design for North Shore Hebrew Academy (NSHA). The Synagogue of NSHA is shaped in the round, and separates the spiritual place of prayer from the academic areas. A spacious skylight, allowing natural light and blue sky to penetrate the sanctuary, punctuates its form and materials of stone, ornamental masonry and glass.
