Long Island
Three vital players in the industries of agriculture and aquaculture on Long Island were panelists at the third in a series of recent meetings of the the Women Economic Developers of Long Island. Under the series rubric, "That Was Then - This Is Now" the organization played host most recently to Joseph Gergela, III, executive director, Long Island Farm Bureau; Karen Rivera, owner, Aeros Cultured Oyster Co.; and Eve Kaplan-Walbrecht, owner, Garden of Eve Organic Farm. The discussion centered on the retooling of Long Island's age-old, first industries to meet the demands and constraints of the 21st century and the ongoing efforts to restructure and revive those industries.
