EP Engineering completes <br>MEP services for 160,000 s/f hotel

Manhattan, NY EP Engineering, an engineering services firm, has completed full MEP engineering services for the Kimpton Hotel Theta, an award-winning hotel.
The project included the full renovation of the 160,000 s/f and 360 guestroom hotel and a full refresh of the guestrooms, an all-new lobby, kitchen, lounge, and stunning rooftop bar. Formerly a Hilton Garden Inn, the project completely transformed the space into a hotel centered around bringing guests a sense of peace and calm. Located in Times Square, the Kimpton Theta is the perfect place for visitors to the city with the Theater District, Radio City Music Hall, and Rockefeller Center all within walking distance.
“We are thrilled to have been part of this award-winning project and to bring this project to life. Our team is dedicated to providing services that go beyond expectations for every client and to overcome any challenges posed by complex projects like this,” said Chris Burgess, P.E., senior partner “We look forward to seeing guests enjoy the peace and tranquility of the Kimpton Theta and make the most of every visit to New York City.”
The project was split into phases so that the hotel could begin operating as soon as the lobby and guestrooms had been renovated. EP Engineering’s team worked closely with the owner, architect, and expeditor to split the MEP design accordingly. This kept the various phases on schedule. EP re-used existing MEP infrastructure as much as possible, augmenting it only where necessary. This approach ensured that each space received efficient HVAC, power, plumbing, fire protection, and fire alarm coverage, all while serving the new aesthetic. One of the challenges that EP’s team overcame was ventilating the new kitchen on the first floor. EP’s team successfully integrated a Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS), kitchen exhaust fan, and a Packaged Control Unit (PCU), carefully positioning the DOAS and exhaust fan on the setback roof above the kitchen, delivering a comfortable and well-ventilated kitchen space.
The Kimpton Hotel Theta is now open and welcoming guests.
