Bronx, NY On Saturday morning. September 17th, members of IREM NYC volunteered with Green City Force (GCF) at Forest Houses Eco-Hub. GCF trains young leaders to power a green and inclusive economy, through service. Their model corps in New York City enlists and trains young people from low-income housing communities for a new and more equitable economy. They equip them with the tools to change the trajectory of their lives and access good jobs. Corps members develop a passion for sustainability and service through driving large-scale environmental and health initiatives in public housing and other frontline communities. They design service as a path to greater wellbeing and means to enlist young people to become contributors and leaders in the movement to build a greener, fairer, and more just world.
IREM spent the morning harvesting crops — kale, potatoes, string beans, radishes, arugula, basil, dill, cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplant and chard. In all IREM picked nearly 200 pounds of produce!
All produce grown and harvested at the Eco-Hub is made available to local residents free of charge at their market on Saturdays at noon.
