Brooklyn, NY Fontainhas and Dukaan have opened locations at 28 Jay St. in DUMBO. Now open, the 1,750 s/f, dual-concept restaurant and market celebrates Indian culture. The project is the first collaborative partnership between Viraj Borkar, founder of INDAY and chief of concept and product at Cha Cha Matcha, actor and storyteller Arjun Gupta, and ex-Bollywood costume designer turned chef Varsha Harlalka.
Named after the Latin Quarter in Goa, India, Fontainhas honors the spirit of collaboration and cultural harmony, creating a welcoming space that appreciates history, celebrates connections, and brings a touch of innovation to everyday rituals. The cafe offers a menu that will showcase the breadth of Indian cuisine, blending traditional flavors with innovation. The concept’s beverage service is anchored by a time-honored presentation of chai and coffee, both consciously sourced from Northeast India, offered in the space from morning until evening. Fontainhas also offers minimal intervention wines, a curated selection of beers (both local and from India), and a menu of non-alcoholic beverages.
“Two Trees is thrilled to support three longtime members of the DUMBO community, Viraj, Arjun, and Varsha in their first collaborative partnership: Dukaan and Fontainhas,” said Alyssa Zahler, managing director of Commercial leasing at Two Trees. “DUMBO is already known for being a thriving cultural ecosystem and the addition of Dukaan and Fontainhas at 28 Jay will only further the diversity of this neighborhood and all it offers.”
In addition to the restaurant, 28 Jay St. will house DUMBO’s first Dukaan, a curated boutique accessible through the cafe that will serve as a one-stop destination for products that satisfy the Indian experience. Dukaan will feature a diverse array of items sourced locally from US-based South Asian brands, as well as brands from India rarely available in stores in the US. These items will include snacks, chutneys, spice blends, and other essential grocery products and home goods such as throw blankets, place mats, and artisanal woven products.
