What recent project, accomplishment or award are you most proud of? Each project is unique and special on its own. However, the project I feel most proud of is a 37-story luxury condominium ground up project in Jersey City NJ, which I did with Plaza Construction. I was part of the project from preconstruction through project closeout. I closely associated with the industry experts and learned a lot about various facets of construction project management. It was a really fulfilling project to be a part of.
What is one of the most exciting developments or innovations impacting the AEC industry right now? What else would it be but Artificial Intelligence and machine learning! AI-powered management systems are said to be capable of providing real-time data to help project managers monitor progress, identify critical issues, and analyze a multitude of factors. These tools can boost project efficiency, enhance risk management and result in positive project delivery. I feel very excited and would definitely like to learn more about it in the near future.
What do you like best about being a woman in the AEC industry? I do not believe classifying a role based on gender is justifiable. I fundamentally believe that anyone who has the right skill set can perform and be a successful contributor to this industry. I chose to be a part of this industry because I believe I have the aptitude and attitude for it. I took intense academic training for 8+ years and have worked in the industry since 2010 which has provided me enough fuel to proceed and keep up the drive for learning and growing in this industry. The best part about being in the AEC industry is that we CREATE! The built environment will stay for many years to come and will impact many lives directly and indirectly. This is something that I feel utmost pride in.
What is your favorite building in New York? I have many favorites. The reasons for preferentialism apply differently – grandeur, sleek profile, performance, or intricate exterior details. But then the architect in me steers towards the Guggenheim Museum which was on my top list of places to visit in New York City when I visited NYC for the first time in 2013. From learning about the renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright through books to visiting one of his creations was no less than a fantasy and it still excites me whenever I visit.
