What was your greatest professional achievement or most notable project in the last 12 months? I have been managing a project to procure the necessary construction permits for an interior fit-out and addition of an Orthopedic Center in midtown. This has been an interesting project with extensive architectural, mechanical, plumbing and fire alarm scope and multiple concurrent filings at both the DOB and the FDNY. The project will include new operating rooms, hand clinic and other medical services that will be available to New Yorkers.
Why should women consider a career in construction? The built environment is where the majority of our daily activities takes place and comfortable spaces are important to a good quality of life. Participating in the creation of a space where life happens is fulfilling. Construction is also a dynamic field that has a lot of room for personal growth and development. It is a field where you are always learning and every new project is unique.
Starting out in the construction business, who or what empowered you? My faith in Christ has empowered me to be excellent in my work ethic and to serve others.
Who within your own firm has helped you succeed within the construction industry? Outsource Consultants is a great place to work because we tackle challenges as team lending each other our experiences and insight. Those of us who have been working at the firm for a few years like myself have access to those who have decades in the industry.
What advice would you offer to other women getting into the construction industry? Take a thorough and detailed, step by step approach to your work. Thinking about the end user who will ultimately benefit from the project can help motivate you to do your best.
