New York, NY Stephen Alton, AIA, has been named to the newly created position of director of interior architecture at New York design and planning firm S9 Architecture. The firm is known for its work in New York, Atlanta, Boston, Nashville, Charlotte and other key U.S. markets.
Alton’s portfolio encompasses commercial, hospitality, retail, multi-unit and single-family residential projects in New York, across the U.S. and in China. Creative and conceptual, Alton draws inspiration from a variety of sources and is passionate about process and materials. Recent efforts include a large, mixed-use hospitality and casino project and corporate office space for creative firms.
John Clifford, S9 Architecture’s founding principal, said, “Having Stephen oversee interior architecture will enable S9 Architecture to expand our interior architecture portfolio. His design talent and business acumen will allow us to dramatically grow our significant existing portfolio of residential, commercial, and hospitality interiors in both New York City and our other national markets. Prior to joining S9, he maintained a thriving solo practice, Stephen Alton Architect, and worked at Diller Scofidio + Renfro, among other prominent firms.
Alton is committed to imparting his expertise to students, having served as a faculty member of the Interior Design Department of Parsons School of Design. Stephen received a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Rhode Island School of Design. He is a licensed architect in New York State and is a member of the AIA.
