Simone Development’s Dr. Mooney honored by St. Thomas Aquinas at 50th annual golf tournament event

Dr. William Mooney, director of Community & Institutional Relationships at Simone Development, was among the honorees at the 50th St. Thomas Aquinas College President’s Council Golf Tournament at the Rockland Country Club. The tournament is one of STAC's premier fundraising events and a "driving" force behind their general scholarship efforts, raising more than $3.5 million since its inception in 1972. The 50th anniversary celebration honored three of the founding members of the golf tournament: Dr. Mooney, Dr. James Freeman, and Dr. James Costello.
Dr. Mooney has been prominent in the metropolitan region’s business and banking community and recently retired from his position as CEO of The Westchester County Association, the county’s premier business membership organization, as well as chairman of the Board of CMS Bank, before joining Simone Development.
Dr. Mooney was elected to head The Westchester County Association in 2004. He has had a long and distinguished career in the banking industry, most recently at Independence Community Bank where he was responsible for all business activities in Westchester County and Connecticut. Prior to that, he held the position of executive vice president of Union State Bank, where he managed retail banking activities and business development.
Dr. Mooney has been honored with numerous civic and leadership awards, including the CYO Outstanding Citizen Award, Monsey Jewish Center Award, 52 Association Outstanding Citizen Award, Graymoor Award, Mary Walsh Dominican Sisters Award, YMCA Outstanding Citizen Award, St. Agnes – Children Rehabilitation Center, St. Thomas Aquinas College Aquinas Medal, St. Thomas Aquinas College Founders Award, United Way Distinguished Citizen Award, Cystic Fibrosis Charles J. Lubin Humanitarian Award, Calvary Hospital Leadership Award, Theodora L. Russell Award for Education of Youth of Westchester County, Pace Law School Distinguished Service Award, Westchester Mental Health Association Leadership Award and Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Citizen Award. In 2004, Dr. Mooney was honored with The Ellis Island Medal of Honor that recognizes individuals for their exceptional humanitarian efforts and outstanding contributions to the nation. Dr. Mooney received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY, and an Honorary Doctor of Commercial Science from St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, NY.
