List 2-3 real estate associations or organizations that you are currently a member of:
- Member of the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY)
- Member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC)
- Member of the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA).
What recent project, transaction or accomplishment are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of my transition three years ago from the consultant/design world to the construction management field. My structural background and my previous managerial positions are now helping me quarterback the structural, curtainwall and MEP coordination on projects like Galaxy, a large-scale new corporate headquarters that Lendlease is building in the Hudson Sq. neighborhood of Manhattan.
What led you to your current profession?
I was looking for a little less design and more build. A friend of mine had always asked me to join the construction management field, and I have always liked the practical aspect of construction and having boots on the ground. My motto has always been that the field takes priority because the work that happens there is where the project moves forward.
Who was/is your mentor and how did s/he influence/help you in your career?
I’ve had a lot of mentors throughout my career, but my true influence has been my mother, who happens to be an engineer as well. She is the reason I became an engineer. I strive to be as competent and courageous as her.
How do you contribute to your community or your profession?
I’m very proud to be part of two great organizations that give back to the community: the ACE Mentor Program, which provides after-school mentorship for high school students interested in architecture, engineering and construction; and Canstruction, an annual design challenge where teams of architects, engineers and contractors build sculptures out of unopened cans of food, which are later donated to City Harvest for distribution to those in need. I also hope to be an example to women and girls who would like to join the construction field. My motivation is to make a meaningful impact on women leadership in construction.
Top three things on your bucket list:
Visit every island in the Caribbean; build a tree house; and beat my husband at a chess game.
Favorite quote:
“This too shall pass.” I’m a mom to two little kids, ages 3 and 1, so this quote applies to work and life overall. I’m a perpetual optimist.
