SWRNA acquires former Syracuse Plastics facility: Will clean up and redevelop the site into townhomes
November 19, 2007 - Brokerage
S&W Redevelopment of North America, LLC (SWRNA) has acquired the former Syracuse Plastics facility.
The property is located in a historic residential neighborhood in the village and is a remnant of the village's industrial past. The property was owned by Precision Castings since the mid-'20s and later acquired by Syracuse Plastics who performed plastic injection mold manufacturing on the site. After relocating to an updated facility, Syracuse Plastics attempted to sell the property, but was unsuccessful due to environmental issues. SWRNA purchased the site from Syracuse Plastics with the intent of not only cleaning up the site but to redevelop it to an end use that better compliments the surrounding neighborhood.
To address environmental impacts from the former manufacturing operations, SWRNA submitted an application for the site to be entered into New York State's Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP). The site was accepted into the program and a Brownfield Cleanup Agreement signed in August. SWRNA will be moving forward with investigation and ultimate cleanup of the property as well as demolition of the former manufacturing building. SWRNA is proposing a townhome development project for the site and has presented site plans to the village planning board and to the trustees.
The project will help the village and its residents transform what was an abandoned Brownfield site into an upscale residential project that better fits with the current uses in the existing neighborhood.
SWRNA is a brownfield redevelopment company specializing in the acquisition and redevelopment of contaminated property. SWRNA owns and redevelops property across NYS and currently has projects underway in Westchester County, the Hudson Valley, central New York and the Finger Lakes regions. SWRNA is one of the most frequent users of New York's Brownfield Cleanup Program and was responsible for securing 30% of all certificates of completion issued under that program through 2006.
