Mineola, NY The Nassau County Local Economic Assistance Corporation (LEAC) has approved a transaction for Province of Meribah Society of Mary, operating as Kellenberg Memorial High School, for $10 million in bond financing for various campus improvements. The bond will be used for the construction of a 60,000 s/f, two-story fine arts and athletics center on the existing Kellenberg Memorial High School campus at 1400 Glenn Curtis Blvd. in Hempstead. The bond will also serve to purchase and install new equipment within the facility.
“Our educational institutions are extremely important to Nassau County’s economy as they are an important consideration, as well as serving to mold the future leaders of the region,” said Nassau County LEAC chairman Richard Kessel. “This bond approval will allow the Kellenberg Memorial High School to expand their fine arts and athletics programming, which will broaden and improve the educational offerings of an institution that has been a mainstay in our county for more than 30 years.”
The Society of Mary (Marianists), which owns and operates the Kellenberg Memorial High School, is a religious order of priests and brothers that was founded in 1817 with the goal of educating youth. The Marianists opened Kellenberg Memorial High School in 1987 with the hopes of expanding Long Island’s Catholic school tradition with the promise of academic excellence. Alongside its proven top-quality academic programming, Kellenberg also aims to provide an atmosphere that aims to educate body, mind and spirit to encourage students to engage in community service as a life-long endeavor.
“The well-being and success of our students are our utmost priorities at Kellenberg Memorial High School,” said Brother Kenneth M. Hoagland, the Principal. “This project will go a long way toward elevating our program offerings, thus providing our students with even more avenues to grow and prosper within our institution. We are incredibly grateful to LEAC for their assistance, as this development would not have been possible without their help.”
