Lindenhurst, NY TRITEC Real Estate Company, Inc., officially opened its new community, The Wel, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community fundraising event benefiting Long Island Cares. Tritec began construction of The Wel in 2019, and the community is currently 84% leased.
“The Wel stands to be an important catalyst in the revitalization of Lindenhurst, and we are excited to stand alongside residents, neighbors, and local business owners to see what comes next in Lindenhurst’s next chapter,” said TRITEC principal Jim Coughlan. “We are also thrilled that the proceeds of this event will go to Long Island Cares and its important mission to serve Long Island’s hungry and food insecure populations. Working with the community to give back reflects TRITEC’s core values to strengthen communities together and give back in the neighborhoods where we build.”
The Wel represents $103 million of investment and has created more than 600 construction jobs. Amenities include a pool and rooftop patio deck, a 24-hour fitness center, fire pits, bike storage, a dog wash station, and more.
“We are honored to be the beneficiary of TRITEC Real Estates’ grand opening and ribbon-cutting event for The Wel residential complex in Lindenhurst,” said Paule Pachter, CEO of Long Island Cares, Inc. “Long Island Cares opened our South Shore Service Center satellite location in Lindenhurst in 2013, at the height of Superstorm Sandy when nearly 14,000 local residents were affected by food insecurity and turned to the regional food bank for assistance. TRITEC has been a wonderful corporate partner. They were instrumental in helping us open our satellite location in Freeport ten years ago, and now with their support of the Lindenhurst community, we’re looking forward to celebrating a new chapter in Long Island’s ever-changing housing landscape.”
The day began with an official ribbon-cutting, with speeches from local elected officials including state senator Mario Mattera, state senator John Brooks, county executive Steve Bellone, County Legislator Kevin McCaffery, Town of Babylon supervisor Rich Schaffer, and mayor Mike Lavorata and Tom Dolan of the Babylon IDA. From the business community, Matt Cohen of the Long Island Association and Mitch Pally of the Long Island Builders Institute, and JoAnn Boettcher of the Lindenhurst Chamber and Jason Kontakis of the Lindenhurst BID. The afternoon event began at 4 pm, open to the public, and included live music and food from many local restaurants, including 27a Brewing Company, Bakuto, Sand City Brewing Co., Muni’s Coffee Joint, Wa Meadwerks, Sidelines Cafe, and Restoration Kitchen, and Cocktails from Hermanas Kitchen and Cocktails, Belfast Gastropub, Riptides Cocktails & Grill, and Pita Bowl.
