Sustainable South Bronx hosts Day of Action Sept. 27

September 22, 2008 - Brokerage
On the afternoon of Sep. 27th, as part of the Green Jobs Now National Day of Actio, Sustainable South Bronx is hosting a concert and party at the Hunts Point Riverside Park to highlight the accomplishments of best graduates and other Bronx green collar workers and celebrate all the different ways we can benefit from a green economy. There will be live music, games, healthy food, and more. Attendees will come away with ideas on how to green their homes and neighborhoods, and they will learn how to take action to create a green economy on a national and international scale. Also on September 27th, Sustainable South Bronx's own SmartRoofs LLC will install its first green roof at Sarah Lawrence College.  To honor the Day of Action, SSBx will stream a live video feed from the project site to the festivities at Hunts Point Riverside Park. Green roofs reduce building owner's costs as they save energy and offer improved elements. Sustainable South Bronx would also like to welcome two new staff members. Bennetta Wadlington is the new job developer and Jaime Stein was recently brought on as the environmental policy analyst. Wadlington has over nine years of experience and comes from the Women's Housing and Economic Developemen Corp. Stein received her MS from the Pratt Institute in Urban Environmental Management Systems. Stein formerly worked at the Pratt Institute as the project manager for the Office of Academic Director of Sustainability.
