Stony Brook, NY The Real Estate Institute at Stony Brook University (REI) will host its annual John Kominicki Symposium through a virtual seminar to be held on consecutive Fridays, September 18th and 25th at 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., both online via Zoom Conferencing.
The symposium, titled “Focus on L.I. Real Estate - The 2020 Decade with Coronavirus,” will bring together industry and policy leaders for two panel discussions that will highlight Long Island’s path forward in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and its implications for the regional economy and real estate industry.
This first seminar in this series will include panelists Kevin Law, president and CEO of the Long Island Association, Peter Elkowitz, president and CEO of the LI Housing Partnership, and Christopher Jones, SVP and chief planner for the Regional Plan Association. The discussion will be moderated by David Pennetta, executive managing partner of Cushman & Wakefield and will center on “Projections for Long Island’s Economy and Real Estate.”
Topics of discussion will include projects such as East Side access, Double/Triple Track, transit-oriented developments, downtown revitalizations, innovation hubs, and research corridors. Panelists will discuss these and other relevant issues in light of ongoing lockdowns and other economic impacts due to COVID-19 and how Long Island can accelerate a return to sustained economic growth.
The September 25th portion of the symposium, also moderated by Pennetta, will include Scott Burman, principal of Engel Burman, Jonathan Miller, president/CEO of Miller Samuel Inc. and Ray Ruiz, executive vice president and managing director of Long Island of JLL. Panelists will discuss how real estate and the workplace may look in a post-COVID-19 environment as the needs to reconfigure floor plans and re-imagine business practices. This topic will also take into consideration ongoing changes that have occurred over the past decade, and how these new practices will be accelerated and otherwise affected by recent events.
