City Sports to occupy 15,612 s/f at Muss Development's 64 West 48th St.
September 8, 2008 - Shopping Centers
Muss Development LLC has lured sporting goods retailer City Sports to occupy 15,612 s/f of retail space at 64 West 48th St. in the Rockefeller Center area. City Sports has 15 existing locations in the northeast and mid-atlantic. This will be its second area store.
City Sports signed on for 11 years. Muss will work with the retailer to upgrade the retail façade and make other improvements, including illuminated signage visible from the Avenue of the Americas and an entrance canopy with additional signage. The store is expected to open in the fall.
"Being an up and coming sporting goods retailer in the New York area with
one other store, City Sports was looking for a location with a significant amount of pedestrian traffic," said Jason Muss, a principal at Muss Development. "The Avenue of the Americas and Rockefeller Center provide just that. And what better place could there be than 64 W. 48th St., where thousands of people gather every morning outside the nearby studios of the NBC Today show."
Muss was represented by Jedd Nero of CB Richard Ellis, Inc.
Muss purchased 64 West 48th St., a 17-story, 130,000 s/f boutique office building in March for $54.5 million. The company is in the process of repositioning the building as a first-class boutique office building. A building-wide multimillion dollar capital improvement program is underway.
Mark Lauzon of Cushman & Wakefield is the exclusive leasing agent for the office space in the building.
Co-founders Mike Kennedy and Eric Martin opened the first City Sports store in 1983 on Massachusetts Avenue in Boston. After 25 years, City Sports has grown into an award winning specialty sports retailer in metropolitan locations along the east coast. Taken directly from its name, City Sports stores are located on the best streets in some of the best cities.
