Hempstead, NY Frederick Parola, CEO of the Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency (IDA), said the agency has approved an economic benefits package that will assist a truck repair business expand in Inwood, retain 19 jobs and create another 31 positions.
The economic development benefits package to Gabrielli Truck Sales was approved at an IDA meeting held via teleconference on May 28th.
Gabrielli, which sells and repairs trucks, including municipal vehicles, is seeking to expand its service facilities at 31 Alameda St. in Inwood by 20,230 s/f for a total of 24,192 s/f. It plans to use the extra space to repair and service governmental agency vehicles.
The company, which currently employs 19, indicated that it would have as many as 75-80 employees within three years of the completion of the project.
The company was granted an incentives package in 2015 for a 10,000 s/f expansion, but after a four-year delay in obtaining building permits, the company decided to undertake a larger expansion with a projected investment of $11.1 million.
Officials of Gabrielli indicated the incentives are necessary because of the high cost of construction and the need to keep the company competitive with truck dealers in nearby states.
Gabrielli, which has its headquarters in Jamaica, Queens, said it has outgrown its current facility in Inwood, and will use the extra space to repair and service governmental agency vehicles. The truck dealer has other locations in Queens, the Bronx, Hicksville, Medford and upstate Montgomery, as well as in Connecticut and New Jersey.
‘I’m pleased that the IDA finally can sign off on this long-planned project which will allow an important business to expand its operations in our town,” said Parola.
