Manhattan, NY Structural engineering firm Severud Associates retrofitted their Midtown office space with energy-efficient lights from Brooklyn-based LED lighting and networked controls distributor and project company Wavelength Lighting.

LED lamps and fixtures were installed throughout the 14,000 s/f office, replacing the existing fluorescent lighting. 

Severud’s need for bright light designed for increased focus on drawing and planning made LEDs an excellent choice. LEDs aren’t just healthier to be around, they’re also “directional,” meaning they emit light in a specific direction, unlike CFL and incandescent bulbs which emit heat and light in every direction.

Wavelength’s LED lamps produce about four times as much light as similar incandescent bulbs with only a fraction of the power. Not only will the LEDs create a better-looking office for Severud’s employees, they will also support employee productivity and wellness, and promote environmental sustainability at the firm.

The project will reduce Severud’s monthly energy costs significantly—reducing energy use by 74%. By installing LED lights in their office, Severud has avoided 99 tons of carbon emissions over the course of 7 years. That’s equal to the emissions released by driving 221,996 miles.
