Cadence Cycling & Multisport Center has been named the winner of the prestigious 2008 Lester Dundes Award in the retail category. The award, established in 2004 in memory of the late publisher of Interior Design magazine, recognizes "extraordinary and winning design projects." The official announcement will be made by the New York chapter of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) on Thursday, June 26, during the Lester Dundes Awards Presentation at the Haworth Showroom.
The Cadence flagship store was recognized for its unique approach to the upscale customer experience. The company, originally located in Philadelphia, wanted to expand its regional success by opening a location in New York City, and develop its landmark brand. TPG collaborated with the client to create a space that echoed the neighborhood's aesthetic and showcased Cadence's core product - ultra high end road bikes.
The 10,200 s/f flagship store for Cadence, located in TriBeCa, is a complete departure from the typical training center or high end retail environment. TPG created a unique high concept, high-tech retail destination that incorporates the amenities of an urban country club and the facilities of a professional training center.
