Year that you entered your current field? 2013
How did you get your start in your current field?
My 2L summer, I worked in the commercial real estate group of a law firm in Atlanta, Georgia. By showing a passion for real estate and the ability to be a real asset to the team, I was able to turn a summer position into a yearlong position and then into my first associate job after graduation. I’m especially thankful for being able to work and be a part of deals during my last year of law school because the practical experience I gained was invaluable in preparing me to hit the ground running post-graduation as a full-time associate.
Who or what do you attribute to your success?
I attribute my success to always being willing to push myself out of my comfort zone to do what is necessary to meet the goals that I have set for myself. I also make sure to share my goals with others so I have a support system to push me as well and hold me accountable. I know that I would not be where I am in my career today without the terrific support system that I have had since day one. Most importantly, I have a great spouse who believes in me more than I believe in myself sometimes.
How do you manage the work/life balance?
As a new mom I am still figuring this out, and am always looking for and thinking about ways to better manage the work/life balance because it is not easy. I do think that making family time a priority and finding time to truly disconnect from work to relax and recharge is key. I am a better attorney because I make sure to be home for bath time each night and I am a better mom because I can represent a client in negotiating a lease. It’s also important to take advantage of vacation days when you can!
