The New York City chapter of ASIS International honored Mark Mershon of the Federal Bureau of Investigation as its 25th annual "Person of the Year." The award luncheon took place at the Jacob Javits Center, a highlight of the chapter's 17th annual Solutions Expo. "I'm deeply honored, and I accept on behalf of all the partners I've had the privilege to work with over the years," said Mershon, assistant director in charge (ADIC) of the New York Office. Commitment to teamwork has characterized the entire tenure of Mershon's 32-year career, and it played a significant role in his selection for this honor. This same sensitivity prompted Mershon to share the spotlight with partner agencies throughout his career, building morale and fostering greater inter-agency cooperation. More than 800 people attended the award luncheon, including a high-profile dais with president Steve Chupa and executive director Michael Stack of ASIS International. Several former Person of the Year recipients also attended, including Raymond Kelly, police commissioner of the City of N.Y., and Frank Cruthers, First Deputy Commissioner of the NYC Fire Department. Former chapter chair Robert Ildefonso received the 2007 Eugene J. Casey CPP Award for Distinguished Chapter Service.
