What was your most notable project, deal, transaction or professional achievement in 2017?
In November, the Brooklyn Navy Yard opened Building 77, a one million s/f manufacturing center anchored by a 60,000 s/f ground floor Food Manufacturing Hub. Building 77 is the largest manufacturing building to open in New York City in decades and the centerpiece of a $1 billion expansion underway at the Yard that will create 10,000 new jobs by 2020. The comprehensive, $185-million renovation of the WWII-era storage facility is a major milestone for the continued growth of manufacturing in New York City and the Brooklyn Navy Yard and will represent more than 3,000 accessible, middle-class jobs when it is fully occupied.
What trends will impact your business in 2018?
There is a tremendous demand for manufacturing space throughout New York City, which we saw firsthand at the Brooklyn Navy Yard when Building 77 – a one million s/f state of the art manufacturing center – opened in November with more than 80% of available space leased. That demand is pushing us to think about how we can leverage our resources and space to not only meet the need but proactively foster the continued growth of the manufacturing sector.
